Before you place anything from this CD onto your hard drive, you must have OpenDoc™ installed!

First, check to see if OpenDoc™ is already installed on your system (see below).

If you have Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) 7.6 or 8.xx, it came with your System Installation CD. If you have an earlier version of the Mac OS, you may need to download OpenDocª.

To find out if OpenDoc™ is already installed on your system:

  1. Double-click on your hard drive. If OpenDocª is installed, you should find a folder called "Stationery" in the main directory of your hard drive.
  2. Now open the System Folder. Within the System Folder, you should find a folder called "Editors."
  3. Open the folder called Control Panels. You should find two control panels named "OpenDoc Setup" and "Editors Setup." If you cannot find them in Control Panels, look for them in the folder called "Control Panels (Disabled)." If you find them in that folder, move them to the folder "Control Panels."
  4. Open the folder called "Extensions." Within "Extensions," you should find a folder called "OpenDoc Libraries."

If you have ALL of the above items, you do not need to install OpenDoc. Otherwise, you must install or reinstall OpenDoc™.

To install OpenDoc™:

If you have Mac OS 7.6 or 8.xx, use your System Installation CD and perform a Custom Installation. Install ONLY OpenDoc™ components.

If you have an earlier version of the Mac OS, you can't find your System Installation CD, or you are hopelessly confused about performing Custom Installations with your System CD:

  1. Using a web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, etc.), go to the URL (your server needs to have FTP capability):

    ftp://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/OpenDoc/

If you use an FTP program (like Fetch 3.03), you need to login as Anonymous.
  2. Follow the instructions in the text files (files ending with .txt) in the FTP directory linked above to download the OpenDoc™ software.
  3. Install the OpenDoc™ software according to Apple's instructions.
