CLIENT INSTALLATION (LOCAL NETWORK)
For your convenience, you might want to print these instructions.
Use these instructions to install CPU software on a PC with Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000 networked to a Windows NT/2000 server. You should have already done the Server Installation on the server.
You must complete the steps below for each PC client computer in the local (classroom) network.
System Requirements for a Client Installation (Local Network) are identical to the standard requirements, except that only 0.5 MB of hard disk space is required.
On the client (i.e., all computers in the local network except the CPU server), begin by quitting all programs.
Double-click on My Computer.
In the figure to the right, the pull-down menu displaying My Computer and the row of buttons to its right is called the Toolbar. If the Toolbar is not showing, open the View menu and select Show Toolbar.
Then click on the Map Network Drive button. The location of this button is indicated in the figure.
In the Map Network Drive window, open the pull-down menu next to the Path field.
Select the option that includes the name of your server computer and CPUServer.
On a Windows NT computer, provide the user name CPU_User and the password you chose while configuring the CPU Server.
You may choose to have the CPU Server automatically reconnect at logon.
Then click OK.

A window for CPUServer should open automatically. If it does not, open My Computer again and double-click on the disk icon for CPUServer.
In the CPUServer window, double-click on the MiniInstallerClient.exe icon.
A screen comes up that asks you to Select folder to install into.
From the pull down menu at the top (to the right of the words Look in:), choose a drive (such as C drive).
In the Current Folder field at the bottom, enter the name of a new folder, such as CPU Client (the name used in the example).
If you do not specify a folder name or choose an existing folder--in other words, if you install the software in the main directory of the drive--you won't be able to uninstall the software at a later time.
Click Select. Then confirm that you want to create a new folder.
The software takes a few seconds to complete the client installation. When the Success window says that the Client has been installed, click OK.
You are ready to begin using the CPU Simulation Software. Begin by double-clicking on the Start CPU Simulators icon located on the desktop. Then just follow the instructions in Starting Simulators: The Basics (begin with #2).
